So you took the time to see an attorney, had an estate plan prepared and now it sits on your shelf or in your safe. When is the last time your checked what it said? Even if you have not had any changes in your life, there may have been significant changes in the law that seriously affect your estate plan.
Don’t expect your attorney to call you if there have been changes! The law changes as often as Michigan weather and the vast amount of attorneys do not have the opportunity to call all their clients every time there is a change.
As a rule of thumb, you should contact your estate planning attorney: 1) every other year; or 2) every time there is any change in your life.
